Frequently Asked Questions

Who is The Spoken Tower for?

Spoken Tower is designed for elementary-aged learners (typically ages 5–11) including:

  • children receiving speech therapy (articulation / phonological disorders)
  • early readers strengthening decoding and fluency
  • children building math fact automaticity
  • learners who benefit from structured practice in a highly motivating format

It can be used at home, in therapy, or in schools.

What makes The Spoken Tower different from typical learning apps?

Spoken Tower is not worksheets on a screen. It delivers:

  • therapy-level repetition
  • real-time feedback
  • adaptive difficulty
  • a rogue-like tower climb structure that makes kids want to keep practicing

Most importantly, it’s powered by a specialized speech recognition engine tuned for kids, which enables interactive speech-driven practice instead of passive clicking.

Can clinicians target specific sounds?

Yes. You can select:

  • sound by letter
  • use an IPA / advanced view to select phonemes or categories (e.g., plosives)

This allows precise targeting for articulation and phonological intervention.

How does the game work?

The flow is simple:

  1. Choose mode: Speech / Reading / Math
  2. Select targets (sounds, word sets, decoding patterns, or operations)
  3. Start climbing the tower
  4. Get high repetition practice inside story-driven gameplay

Spoken Tower starts with easier targets and becomes more complex as players improve, keeping challenge level appropriate while maintaining motivation.

What if speech recognition makes mistakes?

Spoken Tower uses a specialized speech recognition engine tuned to children’s speech. This enables the game to listen, respond, and provide interactive practice rather than simply giving passive exercises.

However, no speech recognition system is perfect—especially with children and disordered speech. Spoken Tower reduces this through:

  • tuning for children’s speech
  • structured target selection
  • repetition-based practice that stabilizes performance over time
Does The Spoken Tower track progress?

Yes.
Spoken Tower tracks practice data for schools or clinics. The game has a STATS option that displays all the targets words per day or over time. There is also a special dashboard which will give you access to the progress of a given user or student.

Do you offer reporting for schools and IEPs?

Yes. Spoken Tower can generate automatic progress reports designed to support:

  • IEP documentation
  • school progress monitoring
  • therapy goal tracking
Is The Spoken Tower meant to replace speech therapy or teaching?

No. Spoken Tower is designed to augment therapy and instruction by increasing dosage. It provides the high repetition that is hard to achieve through traditional sessions alone, while keeping practice motivating.

How often should children play?

For best results, short frequent sessions work well (example: 10–15 minutes/day, 4–5 days/week). Many children improve fastest with consistent repetition over time.

Which devices can The Spoken Tower be played on?

Spoken Tower is currently available for download on iOS devices including iPads and iPhones. Future rollouts will also support Android devices.

Is my child’s speech data private?
Yes. Spoken Tower is designed with privacy and safety as a priority. Children’s speech data is handled securely and can be used anonymously to improve the system only with appropriate consent. We do not sell or share personal data with third parties.
